A Same Kind of Different As Me 3
Dec7
I know many of you at River Oaks are reading the book, A Same Kind of Different as Me. It is an incredible true
story of a very wealthy white man and a very poor black man being brought together in the most unlikly of places. To me, it models Christian compassion at its finest. I’m interested in any thoughts and comments you might have after reading this story.

I just started the sequel today. I got the only copy (brand spankin new) from the library. I have been telling several people about it. Thank you for sharing.
The book hit me between the eyes and caused me to rethink and address any racism and prejudice I have in my heart and in my actions. Coupled with a lesson I taught a couple of weeks ago in the 56 class on the same topic, I am finding myself thinking of and looking at those “not like me” with different eyes. I do not dare say “God’s eyes” because I’ve got a lot of work yet to do, but my goal is to respond with compassion first and prejudice not at all. In this time of continuing high unemployment rates, people need my help, my compassion, my action, my love, and my God more than they need my judgment.
I too am reading the sequel. Both books are so good. I highly recommend these for anyone. Quick easy reads…
